If you applied online through My CFIA, you can make updates to your company's general information at any time via My CFIA.

If you applied by mail, you can make updates to your company's general information by sending new documents to the CFIA's Pre-Market Application Submissions Office (PASO).

If you received a renewal package, you can make updates to your company's general information on the "Company Information Sheet". Refer to Chapter 1 section 1.6 for more information about the requirements to update your company's general information.

Changes to signing authority or resident Canadian agent

If you applied by mail, you must notify the CFIA if there are any changes to the signing authority list or Canadian agent. For more information, refer to Chapter 1 section 1.2.3.

Other changes

Other changes are any change (for example, formulation, new species, etc.) other than those listed above. The fee codes are the same as for a registration.

Submitting your amendments

For applicants using My CFIA, you can submit your changes using the online application in My CFIA.

You must indicate all your changes with the applicable fee codes in the appropriate box on the online application. The CFIA will confirm which fee codes apply once the application is accepted to be logged in the queue for evaluation.

For applicants submitting their changes by mail, you can submit your changes using form CFIA/ACIA 5933 – Application for Feed Approval or Registration under the Feeds Act and Feeds Regulations. To determine which type of amendment applies, you must fill in sections 5 and 6 of the application form.

You can determine your applicable fees by referring to the table above section 13 of the application form which indicates all the payment codes with the applicable fees based on your answers in the form.

Renewing a registration

Registrations are granted for a 3-year period. The expiry date for registrations is March 31, 3 years after the date of registration. To avoid having your registrations expire, mail-in renewal packages must be post marked before March 31 of the year it expires.

Renewal packages posted after March 31, will be treated as a new application. Regular application fees will apply to your renewal package, and you won't be able to continue to market your feed until it's re-registered.

If you fail to apply to renew your registration, your registration will automatically expire. If your registration expires you can't manufacture, sell or import your product into Canada until you:

  • apply for a new registration, and
  • have received the registration from the CFIA

Once re-registered, the CFIA may issue a new registration number for your product.

Additional information

Acknowledgement of receipt will not be provided for renewals received by mail. If you wish to receive a record of delivery, it's suggested that you send your applications by courier or registered mail.

Renewal requirements

If your registrations are due to expire by March 31 of a given year, you are responsible for submitting your registration renewal application before the specified expiry date.

As a courtesy, the CFIA will provide you with information concerning your products that are due for renewal.

If your registration was previously submitted via My CFIA, you'll receive a renewal notice for each product that requires renewal through My CFIA.

If you submit your application by mail, you'll receive:

If you don't need to make any changes to the registration you must complete section 5 – A3 of the application form. This section of the form will ask you to confirm the appropriate statement that applies to your livestock feed.

If your registration has specific requirements for renewal, the CFIA will let you know what added information you'll need to submit at the time of renewal.

The CFIA may return incomplete renewal packages to the registrant, without processing. This could result in the registration expiring.

Removing temporary status of registrations

Temporary registrations are granted for a specified period of time. Your approval letter will:

You must submit a new application with the requested data before the expiry date of the registration. The category 2 or 3 registration fee will apply.

The temporary status of the registration is removed only when the efficacy data outlined in the approval letter has been received, evaluated and found to be acceptable by the CFIA.

Renewal evaluation process

The process for evaluating an application for renewal varies depending on whether the applicant needs to make changes to the registration or not, or if the registration is targeted by the CFIA for additional data review.

For a registration renewal with a change, the evaluation process is the same as a new registration. The CFIA has implemented a process to streamline renewals with no changes.
