Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Pop White'

Summary: The plants of 'VEAZ0029' have an upright growth habit whereas the plants of 'Pop White' have a semi-upright growth habit. The upper side of the leaf blade of 'VEAZ0029' is light green whereas the leaf blade of 'Pop White' is medium green. The corolla of 'VEAZ0029' is of medium diameter whereas the corolla of 'Pop White' is also of medium diameter, but smaller. The margin of the corolla lobe of 'VEAZ0029' has a medium degree of undulation whereas the margin of the corolla lobe of 'Pop White' has a weak to medium degree of undulation.

Description:

PLANT: upright growth habit, narrow to medium width after start of flowering
STEM: no anthocyanin colouration on middle third of actively growing stem

PETIOLE: very short to short
LEAF BLADE: medium to long, narrow, ovate shape, no divisions, dentate incisions of margin, light green upper side, no anthocyanin colouration of upper side

INFLORESCENCE: medium to large diameter, broad ovate shape in profile
FLOWER BUD: white (RHS 155A) just before opening
CALYX: no anthocyanin colouration
FLOWER: single type, arrangement of corolla lobes is not touching
COROLLA: medium diameter
COROLLA LOBE: incurved along longitudinal axis, medium degree of undulation of margin
COROLLA LOBE (INNER SIDE): one colour distributed evenly from apex to base, white (RHS 155A), no secondary colour, no change of colour with age
COROLLA TUBE: medium length, tip of protruding hairs is light green yellow
COROLLA EYE: absent

Origin & Breeding History: 'VEAZ0029' was bred and developed by Syngenta Seeds B.V. in Enkhuizen, Netherlands. It originated from an open pollinated cross that occurred in August of 2011 between the selection designated 'N0563-1', as the female parent, and an unknown male parent. From the resulting progeny, 'VEAZ0029' was selected in August of 2012 in Enkhuizen, for its plant growth habit, early flowering habit and floriferousness. It was first asexually reproduced by cuttings in October 2012, in Enkhuizen, Netherlands.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'VEAZ0029' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2015/2742, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Naktuinbouw - Variety Center in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands, in 2016. The colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
