Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Arizona Red Shades'

Summary: The plants of 'G15272' are taller than those of 'Arizona Red Shades'. The leaf of 'G15272' is wider than that of 'Arizona Red Shades'. The peduncle of 'G15272' is longer than that of 'Arizona Red Shades'. The main colour on the inner side of the ray floret of 'G15272' is dark purple red to dark red whereas the main colour of 'Arizona Red Shades' is red pink. The secondary colour on the inner side of the ray floret of 'G15272' is orange red to medium orange at the apex with medium yellow small dots at the tip whereas the secondary colour of 'Arizona Red Shades' is medium orange at the apex with dark yellow at the tip.

STEM: light to medium green, absent or very weak anthocyanin colouration, medium density of pubescence, thickness ranging from thin to medium, smooth with shallow longitudinal grooves

LEAF: alternate arrangement, simple, oblanceolate, broad acute apex with mucronate tip, sessile, clasping base, entire margin on upper plant, deeply lobed margin on lower plant, medium density of pubescence on upper side, sparse pubescence on lower side, medium green on upper and lower side, no variegation

PEDUNCLE: pubescence ranging from medium to dense
FLOWER: head type inflorescence, terminal in position, erect attitude
RAY FLORET: obovate shape, entire margin, emarginated apex, mainly dark purple red to dark red (RHS 53A-B) on inner side, orange red to medium orange (RHS 32B-C) at apex with medium yellow (RHS 9A) small dots at tip on inner side

Origin & Breeding History: 'G15272' originated from a controlled cross conducted by the breeder, Richard A. Grazzini, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, USA. The cross was made between the female parent, a proprietary breeding line designated 'G2X-32016-1', and the male parent, a proprietary breeding line designated 'G2X-32010-2' in October 2014. The new variety was selected as a single plant from the resulting progeny on September 15, 2015, based on plant vigour, continuous flowering, pollen sterility, seed sterility and field resistance to leaf diseases. Asexual reproduction of 'G15272' was first conducted by vegetative cuttings in October 2015, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, USA.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'G15272' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2020 at Bioflora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate variety and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 3.7 litre pots on April 22, 2020. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on June 18, 2020. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
