December 20, 2018 – Ottawa, ON

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) would like to inform stakeholders that the Description of Variety Form for oilseed soybean (Form 5811) is now available in the online CFIA Forms Catalogue, as part of the CFIA's priority to offer digital-first tools and services.

The CFIA has modernized the oilseed soybean Description of Variety Form in content, technology, and accessibility. The updated form is now accessible online and uses drop-down menus, making registration easier, more consistent, and more accurate. The new form also provides updated traits and descriptors used to describe oilseed soybean varieties, based on science, in a clear and consistent manner to support field crop inspection for Canada's Seed Certification System.

The CFIA worked in collaboration with oilseed soybean plant breeders, scientific experts, and CFIA field crop inspectors in modernizing the new Description of Variety Form. This is the first of a planned 26 Description of Variety Form for crop kinds subject to registration to be updated and put online.
