General

• Origin & Breeding: bred by J.J. Pavek, USDA, Aberdeen (Idaho) from (Butte x A6595-3) and released jointly by the USDA and the agricultural experiment stations of Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Colorado in 1991.
• Year registered in Canada: 1993
• Registration number: 3823
• Maturity: late.

Botanical Features

• Plants: medium to tall, semi-erect; stems weakly pigmented; single wavy and very prominent wings; slightly swollen nodes, not pigmented.
• Leaves: medium green, open; midribs weakly pigmented.
  Terminal leaflets: narrowly ovate; tip acuminate; base obtuse and symmetrical; weakly wavy margins.
  Primary leaflets: four pairs; narrowly ovate; tip acuminate; base obtuse and asymmetrical.
• Flowers: numerous, medium red-violet corolla; lemon yellow anther; flower bud strongly pigmented.
• Tubers: long, slightly flattened; russetted brown skin; medium deep eyes, evenly distributed; slightly prominent eyebrows; white flesh.
• Sprouts: broad cylindrical, base strongly pubescent, medium red-violet pigmentation; apex moderately pubescent, weakly pigmented.

Agricultural Features

Medium to high yielding variety; very resistant to heat necrosis and hollow heart; very susceptible to blackspot bruises; moderately susceptible to growth cracks. Good storability; short dormancy period; high specific gravity.

Resistant to metribuzin herbicide. Requires a long period after wine dessication to achieve good skin set. When intended for french fries, store at 7 to 8 °C and maintain high humidity; should not be stored beyond late February for processing as french fries. Seed potatoes should be stored at 2 to 3 °C to prevent excessive aging and sprouting.

• Utilization: no boiling sloughing and no after cooking discoloration; good for baking and early french frying.
• Chief Markets: fresh market, french fries.

Reaction to Diseases

Good resistance: verticillium wilt, PVY, PVX.
Moderately resistant: early blight, common scab, leafroll, fusarium dry rot.
Highly susceptible: late blight, Root-knot nematode.
