General

• Origin & Breeding: bred by F.I. Lauer from the cross (MN366.65-3 x G6743-5) at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, and selected by both the Texas and Minnesota breeding programs. Released in 1985.
• Year registered in Canada: 1997
• Registration number: 4629
• Maturity: mid-season

Botanical Features

• Plants: medium size, vigorous, open, upright; stems medium thick, reddish nodes, long internodes with a reddish tinge; single straight wings, not prominent.
• Leaves: medium green, smooth and slightly glossy, open, medium size. Petioles and midribs are green.
  Terminal leaflets: irregular, decurrent; apex acuminate and smooth; some pubescence at the base.
  Primary leaflets: flat; apex acuminate; base lobed, unequal and asymmetrical.
  Secondary leaflets: small.
  Tertiary leaflets: few to none.
• Flowers: profusion of large white flowers on long peduncule well above foliage throughout most of the growing season; buds with reddish tinge.
• Tubers: oblong to blocky; russetted, medium-heavy, buff coloured skin; few shallow eyes; white flesh.
• Sprouts: reddish purple.

Agricultural Features

High yielding variety, early sizing of tubers. Few tubers per hill with high percentage of large size. Due to the small number of eyes per tuber, it is recommended to plant whole tubers or 57g (2 ounces) seed pieces. Tubers set near soil surface; a good hill is required to prevent sunburn. Late season weed control can be a problem because the rows rarely close. Growth cracks may occur on heavy irrigated land. Well suited for areas where hollow heart or common scab are a problem.

Medium specific gravity. Good storability with very short dormancy. Produces better than average french fry colour from 7 °C storage.

• Utilization: excellent for boiling, baking and french frying.
• Chief Markets: fresh market, count cartons, and french fry.

Reaction to Diseases

Extremely resistant: common scab, hollow heart.
Very resistant: late blight.
Moderately resistant: verticillium wilt.
Susceptible: PVX, PVS, early blight.

Note : leaf roll symptoms appear late and on lower leaves only.
