- Origin & Breeding: bred by the United State Department of Agriculture from (USDA B4116-2 x USDA X1276-185) and selected at the Maine Agricultural Experiment Station, Maine, in 1962.
- Garden variety
- Registration in Canada: exempt
- Maturity: mid-season to late.
- Plants: upright; stems medium thick; nodes slightly swollen; wings single, wavy.
- Leaves: close, medium to large-sized, medium green; midribs and petioles scantly pubescent.
Terminal leaflets: asymmetrical; tip acute; base cordate.
Primary leaflets: medium to large-sized, mostly symmetrical, ovate, two to three pairs.
Secondary and tertiary leaflets: numerous.
- Flowers: numerous, white, on scantly pubescent green buds.
- Tubers: roundish, flattened at the stem-end; smooth light creamy buff skin, sometimes slightly netted; shallow eyes, same color as the skin; white flesh.
- Sprouts: purplish green.
High yielding of attractive appearance; widely adapted; hollow heart can develop especially in oversized tubers if the variety is subjected to wide growth-rate fluctuations; stores well. High total solids.
- Utilization: good to excellent for boiling and baking, suitable for chipping and french frying.
Reaction to Diseases
Resistant: leaf roll, tuber net necrosis, verticillium wilt, PVA.
Moderately resistant: common scab, pink eye.
Susceptible: black leg, fusarium dry rot, late blight, PVX, PVY.
