United States meat and poultry certificate for wholesomeness

New certification process for the import of meat and poultry products from the U.S.

Starting June 13, 2022, the United States Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) will onboard the CFIA into the Public Health Information System (PHIS) and all certificates for meat and poultry products imported into Canada from the United States will be digitally signed.

The official meat inspection certificates (OMICs) from the United States (U.S.) to Canada are generated through the Public Health Information System (PHIS). The look and feel of the new OMICs is different from the old export certificates (9135-3) received from the U.S.

Important features of the new certificates from the U.S.:

The table below a provides comparison between the previous U.S. OMICs (before June 13, 2022) for Canada and the PHIS generated OMICs (as of June 13, 2022) when they will be generated through the USDA FSIS Public Health Information System (PHIS)
Data element OMIC before June 13, 2022 PHIS generated OMIC as of June 13, 2022
