Origin & Breeding History: 'Crop39' (experimental designation 4353-3) originated from the cross between the variety 'Summer Delight', as the female parent, and the variety 'Coliban', as the male parent. The cross was conducted in 2000 at The New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research Limited, in Lincoln, New Zealand. The resulting seed was sown in the 2000-2001 growing season and the selected tubers were field planted in 2001. Selections were made through 10 more vegetatively propagated generations before the variety identified as 4353-3 was selected in 2013 for its yield; tuber shape, size and skin finish.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Crop39' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the 2018 growing season in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 21 metre long row per variety. Each row contained 70 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart with inter row spacing of 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a Student`s t-test.
