On November 20, 2019, at the Saint John, NB Provincial Court, Michael Bent, from Pocologan, New Brunswick pled guilty to one charge under the Food and Drugs Act.
The court fined Mr. Bent $2,500.
Mr. Bent was convicted of contravening subsection 5(1) of the Food and Drugs Act, in that he did package, treat, and/or process an article of food, namely soft shell clams, in a manner that is false, misleading or deceptive or is likely to create an erroneous impression regarding its character, value, composition, merit or safety. One charge under the Fish Inspection Act was withdrawn by the crown.
