adult - Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada

Apple maggot (Rhagoletis pomonella) is indigenous to eastern North America and a regulated pest to Canada. The main hosts of apple maggot are apples and crabapples (Malus spp.) and hawthorn (Crataegus spp.). Apple maggot is widespread throughout eastern Canada, with the exception of Newfoundland. In 2006, apple maggot was detected for the first time in western Canada. This insect is considered to have a limited distribution in British Columbia.

The CFIA regulates the importation and domestic movement of apple maggot host materials, including fruit, rooted plants and soil to prevent the introduction and spread of apple maggot into and within British Columbia.
