The Government of Canada has appointed an Independent Expert Advisory Panel to conduct a review of events and circumstances related to the XL Foods Inc. E. coli O157:H7 investigation and recall.

The review team includes recognized scientific, public health and industry experts. The team consists of Dr. Ronald Lewis (Chair), Dr. Ronald Usborne and Dr. André Corriveau.

Ronald John Lewis (Chair)

Ronald John Lewis brings a wealth of experience in the field of veterinary medicine. He served as Chief Veterinary Officer and Director, Animal Health Branch for the Province of British Columbia from 1999 to 2009. Dr. Lewis holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (University of Guelph), a Master of Veterinary Science [Pathology] (University of Saskatchewan), is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, and holds a Diploma in Public Sector Management (University of Victoria). In addition to many other activities, Dr. Lewis is the Chair, Editorial Committee of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association.

André Corriveau

André Corriveau has extensive experience in the realm of public health. He currently serves as the Chief Public Health Officer, Department of Health and Social Services, Government of the Northwest Territories. Dr. Corriveau holds a Masters in Business Administration from Laval University, a medical degree (M.D., C.M.) from McGill University, and a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Concordia University. In addition to his current government post, Dr. Corriveau is an adjunct professor, Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary, as well as a clinical professor, School of Public Health, University of Alberta.

W. Ronald Usborne

Before retiring, W. Ronald Usborne, was Vice-President of Quality Assurance, Food Safety, Caravelle Foods, and he continues using his considerable experience by offering consulting services to the food and supplier industries. Dr. Usborne holds a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University, a Masters of Science from the University of Illinois and a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Usborne has taught students at the University of Guelph, conducted research on carcass evaluation, grading, meat quality, and processing, and twice spent time at the Institute of Food Technology in Campinas, Brazil, working on developing beef and pork grading systems.
