Summary: The growth habit of the plants of 'AAC Généreuse' is semi-upright whereas it is spreading for 'Kent'. The leaf of 'AAC Généreuse' is medium sized whereas that of 'Kent' is large. The leaf colour of 'AAC Généreuse' is medium green on the upper side whereas it is blue green on 'Kent'. The glossiness of the leaf of 'AAC Généreuse' is medium whereas it is absent or weak on 'Kent'. The petal arrangement on the flowers of 'AAC Généreuse' is overlapping whereas it is touching on 'Kent'. The fruit of 'AAC Généreuse' has a long conic shape with a medium red colour whereas that of 'Kent' is conical with a dark red colour. The achenes are positioned below the fruit surface for 'AAC Généreuse' whereas they are level with the fruit surface for 'Kent'. The calyx attachment of the fruit of 'AAC Généreuse' is inserted whereas it is level with the fruit of 'Kent'.

Description:

PLANT: semi-upright growth habit, dense foliage, medium to strong vigour, non remontant type of fruit bearing

STOLONS: medium to many, weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, dense pubescence

LEAF: medium size, medium green on upper side, absent or weak blistering, medium glossiness, no variegation
TERMINAL LEAFLET: moderately longer than width, acute base, serrate to crenate margin, concave shape in cross-section
PETIOLE: medium length, horizontal attitude of hairs
STIPULE: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration

TIME OF BEGINNING OF FLOWERING: mid-season
INFLORESCENCE: positioned level with foliage, medium to many flowers, upwards attitude of hairs on pedicel
FLOWER: calyx diameter same size as corolla, stamens present
PETALS: overlapping, moderately shorter than width, white on upper side

TIME OF BEGINNING OF FRUIT RIPENING: mid-season
FRUIT: moderately longer length than width, medium size, long conic shape, absent or very narrow band without achenes, slight difference in shape between the primary and secondary fruits
FRUIT SKIN: medium red colour, even or very slightly uneven colour, medium glossiness, even or very slightly uneven surface
ACHENES: inserted below level of fruit surface
CALYX: inserted attachment, outwards attitude of sepals, slightly larger than diameter of fruit, very strong adherence of calyx
FRUIT FLESH: medium firmness, light red, light red core, medium size cavity

Origin & Breeding History: 'AAC Généreuse' (experimental designation LL0312-23) originated from the controlled cross between 'Carlsbad' and 'SJQ-70' made in 2003 by Dr. Shahrokh Khanizadeh at the Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, in Quebec. In 2008, the variety was selected for commercial evaluation. Selection criteria included yield, fruit size, disease resistance, shelf life and fruit colour as it compared to 'Kent' and 'Jewel'.

Tests & Trials: Trials for 'AAC Généreuse' were conducted in Lavaltrie, Quebec during the 2014 growing season. In the spring of 2013, a total of twenty plants were planted. Plants were spaced approximately 40 cm apart along 5 metre rows spaced 1.3 metres apart. Each variety consisted of approximately 250 plants when examined. Measured characteristics were based on 15 measurements.
