Summary: The anthocyanin colouration on the hypocotyl of 'OAC Morden' is of medium intensity whereas the intensity is strong on 'OAC Lakeview' and very strong on 'OAC Drayton'. When 50% of the flowers are open, the branching attitude for 'OAC Morden' is semi-erect whereas it is erect for 'OAC Lakeview'. The hairs on the middle third of the main stem of 'OAC Morden' are grey whereas they are tawny for 'OAC Drayton'. When 50% of the pods are ripe, the plants of 'OAC Morden' are taller than those of 'OAC Lakeview'. The colour of the hilum for 'OAC Morden' is yellow whereas it is dark brown for 'OAC Drayton'. The seed coat of 'OAC Morden' has strong glaucosity whereas that of 'OAC Drayton' has weak glaucosity and that of 'OAC Lakeview' has medium glaucosity. The glossiness of the yellow seed testa is opaque for 'OAC Morden' whereas it is intermediate between opaque and bright for the testa of 'OAC Drayton'. The hilum funicle is a different colour from the testa for 'OAC Morden' whereas it is the same colour as the testa for 'OAC Drayton'. The plants of 'OAC Morden' flower and mature earlier than those of the reference varieties.

Origin & Breeding History: 'OAC Morden' (experimental designation SeCan 11-05C) originated from the cross between 'OAC Prodigy' and the experimental line from the University of Minnesota, MN0902CN(SCN), which was conducted in 2006 at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. The crossed material was derived by Single Seed descent technique until the F4 generation when a single plant was selected based on maturity and agronomic traits in 2007. Seed from this plant was harvested and maintained by pedigree selection until the F4:7 generation when 25 plants were selected for morphological uniformity in 2010. The line, designated as SeCan 11-05C, was tested in the 2011 Private Manitoba Soybean Variety Trials and in the 2012 and 2013 Public Manitoba Soybean Variety Trials.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'OAC Morden' were conducted during the 2016 and 2017 growing seasons at the Elora Research Station of the University of Guelph, in Elora, Ontario. The trial was arranged in a RCB design and consisted of four replicates per variety with four rows per replication. Plots were approximately 1.5 by 5 metres with a row spacing of 43 centimetres. Measurements were taken from 20 plants or parts of 20 plants of each variety except for the 100 seed weight with 2 samples taken per replicate for each variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student t-test.
