Varieties used for comparison: 'RJS05003' and '27-12RY'
Summary: When 95% of the pods are ripe, the plants of 'P06T28R' are taller than those of 'RJS05003' and shorter than those of '27-12RY'. The seed shape of 'P06T28R' is spherical whereas it is spherical flattened for the reference varieties. The hilum colour for 'P06T28R' is dark brown whereas it is grey for '27-12RY'.
PLANT: oilseed type, indeterminate growth type, semi-erect growth habit, light tawny pubescence on middle third of main stem, flowers and matures early
HYPOCOTYL: strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration
LEAF: pointed ovate lateral leaflet, medium sized lateral leaflet
POD: medium to dark brown colour
SEED: medium size, spherical shape, yellow ground colour of testa
HILUM: dark brown, normal abscission layer, yellow funicle
Origin & Breeding History: 'P06T28R' (experimental designation XB05B13) is the result of the cross between '90M92' and '90Y50' conducted in 2006 in the winter in Salinas, Puerto Rico. The modified single seed descent method and pedigree method were used to develop the variety. The F1-F2 generations were grown in Salinas, Puerto Rico and the F3 generation was grown in Viluco, Chile. In 2008, the F4-F5 generations grown near Tavistock, Ontario, Canada, and the F6 generation grown in Viluco, Chile, were advanced based on yield for single plants and progeny rows. Single plant purification took place in 2010 in Viluco, Chile. Wide area testing continued from 2011-2013 in the USA and Canada. Selection criteria included yield, maturity and resistance to Roundup branded herbicides and to Phytophthora rot (Phytophthora sojae).
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'P06T28R' conducted in Stratford, Ontario during the 2014 growing season was planted in a RCB design and consisted of 3 replicates for each variety. Plots consisted of 2 rows 4 metres in length and a row spacing of 76 cm. Each plot was sown with 275 seeds per replication. For each variety, the plant height was based on 30 measurements. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on LSD values. Results were supported by the official technical examination report 201300207, purchased from the Plant Variety Protection Office, Beltsville, Maryland, USA.
