Origin & Breeding History: 'Blue Marvel' originated from a cross pollination between the proprietary breeding selections designated H57-8, as the female parent, and 'C7713-1', as the male parent. The cross was conducted in August 2010 as part of a controlled breeding program in Hem, the Netherlands. 'Blue Marvel' was initially selected in June 2011 for its large flowers and compact growth habit. Asexual propagation since then has been through the use of vegetative cuttings.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Blue Marvel' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2015 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on June 10, 2015. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants of each variety on July 24, 2015. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
