Variety used for comparison: 'Mondial'
Summary: The lightsprout of 'Panamera' is medium size whereas the lightsprout of 'Mondial' is small. The lightsprout tip of 'Panamera' has medium density of pubescence whereas the lightsprout tip of 'Mondial' has sparse pubescence. The plants of 'Panamera' are taller than the plants of 'Mondial'. The foliage structure of 'Panamera' is stem type where the foliage is open and the stems are clearly visible whereas the foliage structure for 'Mondial' is intermediate type where foliage is half open and the stems are partly visible. From the second pair of lateral leaflets, the leaflet of 'Panamera' is narrower than long whereas the leaflet of 'Mondial' the leaflet is as broad as it is long.
LIGHTSPROUT: medium size, spherical shape, few root tips, short lateral shoots
LIGHTSPROUT BASE: medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration, absent or low to medium proportion of blue in anthocyanin colouration, dense pubescence
LIGHTSPROUT TIP: medium size in relation to base, closed habit, weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration, medium density of pubescence
PLANT: foliage structure is stem type where foliage is open and stems are clearly visible, upright growth habit, late maturity
STEM: absent or very low extent of anthocyanin colouration
LEAF: outline is medium size, openness is intermediate between closed and open, medium green on upper side, absent or very low extent and absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on upper side of midrib, medium to strong presence of secondary leaflets, absent or very low frequency of coalescence of terminal and lateral leaflets
SECOND PAIR OF LATERAL LEAFLETS: leaflet is medium size and narrower than long
LEAFLET: absent or very weak waviness of margin, medium depth of veins, medium degree of glossiness of upper side, pubescent blade at apical rosette
INFLORESCENCE: high frequency per plant, small to medium size
PEDUNCLE: absent or very low extent of anthocyanin colouration
FLOWER BUD: medium to high extent of anthocyanin colouration
COROLLA: medium size
COROLLA (INNER SIDE): absent or very low extent of anthocyanin colouration, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, absent or low proportion of blue in anthocyanin colouration
TUBER: oval shape, cream to light yellow flesh
TUBER EYE: shallow, yellow at base
TUBER SKIN: yellow, develops weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration in reaction to light
Origin & Breeding History: 'Panamera' originated from a cross conducted in 2000 at HZPC Holland B.V. in Metslawier, Netherlands between 'Voyager' and 'Fabula'. 'Panamera' was selected in 2001for its yield, internal and external quality, and resistance against diseases and pests.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Panamera' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the growing season of 2016 in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 19.5 metre long row containing 65 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
