Varieties used for comparison: 'Fiscor Fire' and 'Fiscor'

Summary: 'Fiscor Electric' differs from the reference varieties, 'Fiscor Fire' and 'Fiscor' in bract colour, leaf length and intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the upper and lower sides of the leaf petioles. The bracts of 'Fiscor Electric' are more orange-red than the bracts of both reference varieties. The leaves of 'Fiscor Electric' are shorter than those of both reference varieties. The intensity of anthocyanin colouration of the upper side of the petioles of 'Fiscor Electric' is medium to strong whereas it is strong in both 'Fiscor Fire' and 'Fiscor'. The intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the lower side of the petioles of 'Fiscor Electric' is weak whereas it is medium in 'Fiscor Fire' and medium to strong in 'Fiscor'.

Description:

'Fiscor Electric' has weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the stem. The leaves are broad ovate and have a rounded to wedge-shaped base with no anthocyanin colouration on the upper and lower sides. There is no anthocyanin colouration on the veins on the upper and lower sides of the leaf blades. Development of lobes on the leaf blades is weak to medium with a rounded shape of sinus between the lobes. Intensity of anthocyanin colouration of the upper side of the petiole is medium to strong whereas it is weak on the lower side.

The uniformly coloured red bracts of 'Fiscor Electric' are few to medium in number with weak to medium lobe development. There is no incision of margin, folding, curving or twisting of the bracts. The broad ovate shaped bracts have a rounded to wedge-shaped base with very weak intensity of rugosity between the veins. The glands of the cyathium are yellow and medium in size.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Fiscor Electric' arose as a naturally occurring mutation of the variety, 'Fiscor', discovered in Gönnebek, Germany, in November 2001. The plant was taken to Hillscheid, Germany to enhance vegetative growth for propagation by shoot tip cuttings.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Fiscor Electric' were conducted at Westcan Greenhouses Ltd., Langley, British Columbia in November/December of 2003. The trial consisted of a minimum of 10 plants of each variety grown in a greenhouse. The 15cm pots were spaced approximately 38cm (from center) apart. Measured characteristics were based on ten measurements.
