Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Nirvin'

Summary: The plants of 'Redwing' are medium to tall whereas the plants of 'Nirvin' are of medium height. The upper side of the leaf blade of 'Redwing' is medium green whereas the leaf blade of 'Nirvin' is medium to dark green. The margin of the leaf blade of 'Redwing' has a medium degree of undulation whereas the margin of the leaf blade of 'Nirvin' has a weak degree of undulation. Before maturity, the intensity of colour of the fruit is strong for 'Redwing' whereas the intensity is medium to strong for 'Nirvin'. At maturity, the intensity of colour of the fruit is weak to medium for 'Redwing' whereas the intensity is medium for 'Nirvin'. The shape of the apex of the fruit of 'Redwing' is rounded whereas the shape of the apex of the fruit of 'Nirvin' is rounded to moderately depressed. The fruit of 'Redwing' matures mid-season whereas the fruit of 'Nirvin' matures early to mid-season.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Redwing' (breeder designation 35-154 RZ) originated from a controlled cross conducted in June 2007, in De Lier, Netherlands. From the resulting progeny, 'Redwing' was selected in September 2008 for its plant vigour, fruit quality, yield, and resistance to Tabomavirus pathotypes P0, P1 and P1-2, and Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Redwing' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number PPS01245, purchased from Naktuinbouw, Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. The trial was conducted by Naktuinbouw, Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands, in 2011.
