Origin & Breeding History: 'Sunpara 3242' originated from a controlled pollination which took place at the Omi Research and Development Center of Suntory Flowers Ltd. in Higashiomi-shi, Shiga, Japan. The cross took place in April 2006 between the female proprietary parent, '02M11-2', and the male parent, 'M37-mt2'. The resulting seed was germinated and the seedlings were grown to maturity. 'Sunpara 3242' was selected in October 2007 for its plant growth habit, flower size and flower colour.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial of 'Sunpara 3242' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2015 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. It included a total of 15 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings transplanted into 20 centimetre standard pots on May 12, 2015. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on July 30, 2015. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
