Origin & Breeding History: 'Sunpararekin' originated from an open-pollinated cross conducted in April 2006 at the Omi Research and Development Center of Suntory Flowers Limited, in Higashiomi-shi, Shiga, Japan, between a proprietary variety designated '02M5-1', as the female parent, and a proprietary variety designated 'MH51', as the male parent. From the resulting progeny, one seedling was selected in October 2007 for its plant growth habit and flower colour. This seedling was trialed from April to November 2009 to examine its botanical characteristics and it was concluded that 'Sunpararekin' was distinguishable from all other varieties, and uniform and stable in its characteristics.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Sunpararekin' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2013/2140, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Naktuinbouw - Variety Center in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands, in 2014. The colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
