Origin & Breeding History: 'ILVOBO' originated from an open pollinated cross between the female parent, 'Pink Diamond', and pollen from an unknown male parent, conducted by the breeder Johan Van Huylenbroeck, an employee at the Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research (ILVO), in the summer of 2003 in Melle, Belgium. In the summer of 2005, one plant was selected for its compact growth habit, early flowering and numerous sterile flowers per panicle.
Tests & Trials: Trials for 'ILVOBO' were conducted in an outdoor, irrigated, container trial during the summer of 2013 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 10 shrubs each of the candidate and reference variety. All shrubs were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 13 litre pots on July 8, 2012. Trials were arranged outdoors in rows with 1 metre spacing between plants. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on July 11, 2013. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
