Origin & Breeding History: 'Sunstruck' originated from a controlled cross pollination conducted in Elburn, Illinois in July 2009. The cross was made using the proprietary Heliopsis helianthoides designated '3652-C5', as the female parent, and the proprietary Heliopsis helianthoides designated '3649-A32', as the male parent. 'Sunstruck' was selected in July 2010 based on its compact growth habit, large inflorescence size and early flowering habit. 'Sunstruck' has since been asexually propagated from vegetative cuttings.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Sunstruck' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2014 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 4.4 liter containers on May 12, 2014. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants of each variety on July 7, 2014. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
