The objective of the program was to create new Fuchsia varieties suitable for bedding purposes. Selection criteria included basal branching, compactness, early and free floriferousness and semi-pendant growth habit. 'Kiecandiro' was a selection made in 1998 from a seedling population of Fuchsia × hybrida that was produced as a result of crossing two inbred parental lines, 9141-6 x 9078-3.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Kiecandiro' were conducted in Oxford Station, Ontario during the summer of 2005. Fifteen plants of each variety were individually grown in 10cm plastic pots in a polyhouse. Unless indicated otherwise, measured characteristics were based on ten measurements.
