Summary: The plant of 'ERFZ0001' is shorter and narrower than that of 'Bowles' Mauve'. The leaf blade of 'ERFZ0001' is shorter and narrower than that of 'Bowles' Mauve'. 'ERZF0001' has many flowering stems per plant whereas 'Bowles' Mauve' has few.
Description:
PLANT: perennial, upright bushy growth habit, many flowering stems
STEM: medium green, absent or very sparse pubescence, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, weak glaucosity, small diameter
LEAF: simple type, linear to lanceolate shape, cuspidate apex, attenuate base, margin entire, medium density of pubescence on upper and lower sides, absent to very weak glossiness on upper and lower sides, grey green on upper and lower sides
INFLORESCENCE: long flowering period, absent or very weak fragrance, raceme type
PEDUNCLE: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, sparse pubescence
SEPAL: lanceolate shape, acuminate apex, margin entire, sparse pubsecence on outer side,
SEPAL (INNER SIDE): absent or very sparse pubescence, absent or very weak glaucosity
COROLLA: single colour, purple colour group
PETAL: touching to overlapping petals, spatulate shape, emarginate apex, violet (RHS N81C-D) on inner side with violet veins (RHS N81A-B), no petal markings, violet (RHS N81C) on lower side
Origin & Breeding History: 'ERFZ0001' originated from a controlled cross made in Enkhuizen, Netherlands in April 2009. The cross was made between the female parent, 'Bowles' Mauve', and the male parent, 'M1792-52'. The resulting seed was sown in a greenhouse in September 2009, and in April 2010, 'ERFZ0001' was selected for its flower colour, plant growth habit and production characteristics.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'ERFZ0001' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2015 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings transplanted into 15 cm pots on May 11, 2015. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on July 14, 2015. All colour measurements were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society colour chart.
