Origin & Breeding History: 'KLEDG14178' was discovered and developed by the breeder, Martin Glawe, in Stuttgart, Germany. It originated from a mutation of the Dianthus designated 'DSU-2011-0033' discovered in June of 2011, in Stuttgart. 'KLEDG14178' was selected for its flower colour and floriferousness. After selection, it was evaluated in greenhouse trials, in Stuttgart from September 2012 to April 2013, to assess branching characteristics, floriferousness, tolerance to frost, and indoor and outdoor growth performance. In April of 2014, in Stuttgart, Germany, 'KLEDG14178' was selected for commercialization.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'KLEDG14178' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2015/0141, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, in Angers, France. The trial was conducted in 2016 by the Naktuinbouw - Variety Center, in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands, using the reference number ANJ3175. The colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
