Origin & Breeding History: 'KLEDG12163' was bred and developed by the breeder, Martin Glawe, in Stuttgart, Germany. It originated from a controlled cross conducted in April 2009, between the selection designated 'DSS-2007-0016', as the female parent, and the selection designated 'DSS-2007-0020', as the male parent. From the resulting progeny, seedlings were selected in May of 2010 for their good branching characteristics and bicolour flowers. These seedlings were evaluated in greenhouse trials, in Stuttgart from September 2010 to April 2011, to assess their branching characteristics, floriferousness, frost tolerance, and indoor and outdoor growth performance. In April of 2012, in Stuttgart, Germany, 'KLEDG12163' was selected for commercialization.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'KLEDG12163' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2012/2257, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, in Angers, France. The trial was conducted in 2013 by the Naktuinbouw - Variety Center, in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands, using the reference number ANJ03086. The colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
