'KLEDG13159' originated from a hybrid cross conducted in July 2009, between the female parent 'DSS 07-031' and the male parent 'DSS 07-026'. Resulting seedlings were selected in June 2010 based on criteria for good branching , flowering time, and flower colour. Selected seedlings were further evaluated in greenhouse trials between October 2010 and April 2011 in Stuttgart , Germany and in Latina, Italy from September 2010 to March 2011. A single plant was selected for commercialization and named 'KLEDG13159' in May 2011.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'KLEDG13159' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2016 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 15, 2016. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on June 1, 2016. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
