Summary: The cotyledon of 'PB3CN257' is wider than those of 'PB1CN231' and 'PPS01-140 B-Line'. The leaf margin of 'PB3CN257' is sharp whereas it is rounded for the reference varieties. 'PB3CN257' flowers earlier than the reference varieties. The petal of 'PB3CN257' is larger than that of 'PB1CN231'. The silique and pedicel of 'PB3CN257' are longer than those of 'PB1CN231' and 'PPS01-140 B-Line' whereas the pedicel is shorter than that of '5440'. 'PB3CN257' has a longer beak than the reference varieties. At maturity, the plant of 'PB3CN257' is shorter than the reference varieties. The seed coat of 'PB3CN257' is black whereas it is brown for 'PB1CN231'.

Origin & Breeding History: 'PB3CN257' is the male fertile maintainer line of 'PA3CN157'. 'PB3CN257' is a fertile segregate that was derived by crossing isogenic lines. Crossing was done at Bayer CropScience in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 2011. 'PB3CN257' was selected in 2012 on the basis of per se performance, vigour, maturity, blackleg resistance, clubroot tolerance, increased seed pod shatter tolerance, oil content, fatty acid profile and glucosinolate content.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials conducted during the summers of 2014 and 2015 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan were set up in a RCB Design with 3 replications per variety. Each year, the plots consisted of 3 rows that were 6 metres in length with a spacing of 25 cm between rows and 50 cm between plots. The measured characteristics were based on 30 measurements of the cotyledon, leaf, flower and plant height and 60 measurements of the silique. The means were based on a two year average. Mean differences were significant at the 2% probability level based on LSD values.
