Varieties used for comparison: 'PPS98-274', 'PPS02-364' and '5440'
Summary: The cotyledon of 'PR3CN560' is wider than that of 'PPS98-274'. The leaf of 'PR2CN560' has a medium number of lobes whereas that of 'PPS02-364' has a few lobes. The leaf of 'PR3CN560' has an undulating to rounded margin whereas the margin is sharp for 'PPS98-274' and 'PPS02-364'. The leaf of 'PR3CN560' is longer than that of 'PPS02-364' and is narrower than that of '5440'. 'PR3CN560' has a longer petiole than 'PPS98-274' and 'PPS02-364'. 'PR3CN560' flowers later than the reference varieties. The silique, beak and pedicel of 'PR3CN560' are longer than those of '5440'. 'PR3CN560' has a longer pedicel than 'PPS02-364'. At maturity, the plant of 'PR3CN560' is taller than that of 'PPS02-364'. 'PR3CN560' is later maturing than 'PPS02-364' and '5440'.

QUALITY CHARACTERISTICS: 0.02% erucic acid, oil content is 50.3% of whole dried seed, protein is 42.2% of dried oil free meal, very low glucosinolates (8.7 µmol/g)
CHEMICAL REACTION: resistant to glufosinate ammonium herbicides
DISEASE REACTION: moderately resistant to resistant to Blackleg (Leptosphaeria maculans asexual stage: Phoma lingam)
Origin & Breeding History: 'PR3CN560' is a restorer line in the process of F1 hybrid production. It was derived as a doubled haploid line containing the Rf3 gene construct in homozygous state. The cross was made in Canada in 2006 with the doubled haploid line being extracted in 2008. 'PR3CN560' was selected in 2012 on the basis of fertility restoration of numerous male sterile lines and expression of tolerance to glufosinate-ammonium herbicide. Other selection parameters included height, vigour, maturity, blackleg resistance, oil content, fatty acid profile, glucosinolate content and combining ability.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials conducted during the summers of 2013 and 2014 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan were set up in a RCB Design with 3 replications per variety. Each year, the plots consisted of 3 rows that were 6 metres in length with a spacing of 25 cm between rows and 50 cm between plots. The measured characteristics were based on 30 measurements of the cotyledon, leaf, flower and plant height and 60 measurements of the silique. The means were based on a two year average. Mean differences were significant at the 2% probability level based on LSD values.
