Origin & Breeding History: 'PR1CN508 is a restorer inbred line used in F1 hybrid production which contains the Rf3 gene in the homozygous state. It was produced in Canada in 2008 with the double haploid line being extracted in 2009. 'PR1CN508 was selected in 2010 on the basis of fertility restoration of numerous male sterile lines and expression of tolerance to glufosinate-ammonium herbicide. Other selection parameters included height, vigour, maturity, blackleg resistance, sclerotinia tolerance, oil content, fatty acid profile, glucosinolate content and combining ability.
Tests & Trials: Trials conducted in the summers of 2011 and 2012 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan were set up in a RCB Design with 3 replications per variety. Plots each year consisted of 3 rows with a row length of 6 metres and a row spacing of 50 cm. There were 40 measurements of the cotyledon characteristics, 30 measurements of the leaf, flower and plant height characteristics and 60 measurements of the silique characteristics. Means are based on a two year average. Differences are significant at the 2% probability level based on LSD values.
