Summary: 'PPS02-367' has narrower cotyledons than '2733' and 'Ebony'. 'PPS02-367' has more leaf lobes than 'PPS02-366'. The density of leaf margin dentations of 'PPS02-367' is greater than '2733' and 'PPS02-366'. 'PPS02-367' flowers later than '2733', 'Ebony' and 'PPS98-274'. The flower petal length of 'PPS02-367' is shorter than '2733'. The silique attitude of 'PPS02-367' is erect while it is semi-erect for 'PPS02-366'. 'PPS02-367' has narrower flower petals than 'Ebony'. 'PPS02-367' has a shorter beak than 'Ebony'. The plant height at maturity of 'PPS02-367' is shorter than 'PPS98-274' but taller than '2733'. 'PPS02-367' is resistant to glufosinate ammonium herbicides while 'Ebony' is not.

Description:

'PPS02-367' is a male fertile inbred spring canola variety containing the Rf3 gene construct. The cotyledons are very narrow and medium in length. Leaf blades are medium green in colour with many lobes. The leaf margin is sharp with a medium density of dentations that are shallow to medium in depth. The leaves are medium to long in length with a medium to wide width and a long petiole. The yellow flower petals are short to medium in length and medium in width. The erect siliques are medium in length and narrow in width with a medium beak length and short to medium pedicel length. The plants are tall in height at maturity. Seed colour is black. 'PPS02-367' has very low erucic acid content and low glucosinolates. 'PPS02-367' is resistant to glufosinate ammonium herbicides.

Origin & Breeding History: 'PPS02-367' is a restorer line in the process of F1 hybrid production. 'PPS02-367' was derived as a doubled haploid 99-97-215 containing the Rf3 gene in the homozygous state. The cross and doubled haploid line extraction occurred in Canada in 1999 with the pedigree as 99CBN090/99CBN091//98N16628/98CGH071. 'PPS02-367' was selected in 2001 on the basis of fertility restoration of numerous male sterile lines and expression of tolerance to glufosinate-ammonium herbicide. Other selection parameters included height, vigor, maturity, blackleg resistance, oil content, fatty acid profile, glucosinolate content, and combining ability. Breeder seed production commenced in 2003.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials were conducted at the Bayer CropScience facility in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2003, 2004. Plots consisted of 3 rows 6 meters in length with 50 cm row spacing. There were 2 replications laid out in a RCB design.
