Origin & Breeding History: '43A56' was developed using the pedigree method at the Edmonton Research Center of Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc. in 1998. Single plants and their progenies were selected for early maturity, lodging resistance, high oil, high protein, general vigor and uniformity. '43A56' was first evaluated in the preliminary yield tests in 2000, before it was entered in the wide area trials of Pioneer Hi-Bred in 2001. It was tested in the Western Canadian Public Coop test in 2002.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials were conducted at Georgetown Research Center of Pioneer Hi-Bred Production Ltd., Georgetown, Ontario in the summers of 2001 and 2002. Each plot consisted of two rows spaced 0.5 metres apart and 2 metres in length, replicated three times in a RCB design.
