Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'ZF06-179' (Jelly Bean)

Summary: The leaf of 'ZF08-095' is smaller than the leaf of 'ZF06-179'. The upper side of the leaf is dark or very dark green for 'ZF08-095' whereas the leaf of 'ZF06-179' is light to medium or medium green. The inflorescence of 'ZF08-095' is shorter than the inflorescence of 'ZF06-179'. The fruit of 'ZF08-095' is very small whereas the fruit of 'ZF06-179' is medium to large. The fruit of 'ZF08-095' is very firm with high sweetness whereas the fruit of 'ZF06-179' is firm with medium sweetness.

Description:

PLANT: strong vigour, semi-upright growth habit, flowers and fruits on one-year-old shoots only, flowering begins early to mid-season, fruit ripening begins early season
ONE-YEAR-OLD SHOOT: green and greenish red, short internode length

LEAF: large length to width ratio, lanceolate shape, dark and very dark green on upper side, serrate margin

COROLLA: urceolate shape
CORROLA TUBE: small with ridges, very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration

FRUIT: medium to dense fruit cluster, light intensity of green on unripe fruit, very small, elliptic and oblate shape in longitudinal section, sepals reflexed with erect attitude, shallow calyx basin, medium bloom intensity, dark blue skin, very firm, high sweetness, medium acidity

Origin & Breeding History: 'ZF08-095' arose from a cross between 'JU 60' (female parent) and 'US 702' (male parent) made in 1988 in Lowell, Oregon. From the resulting progeny, 'ZF08-095' was selected in 2008 for its growth habit, foliage colour, and fruit colour.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'ZF08-095' were conducted by Expert Agriculture Team Ltd., in Chilliwack, British Columbia during the 2015 growing season. The plots were planted in the spring of 2014 in a randomized complete block design. Each variety consisted of 3 replicates with 3 plants per replicate for a total of 9 plants of each variety. Plants were spaced approximately 60 centimetres apart within rows and 3 metres between rows. Measurements were taken from 9 plants or parts of plants of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
