Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Carita Raspberry'

Summary: The plant and flower of 'ANCASPI' are larger than that of 'Carita Raspberry'. The leaf of 'ANCASPI' is longer than the leaf of 'Carita Raspberry'. The inner side of the upper and lower lip of the corolla lobes of 'ANCASPI' are blue pink while those of 'Carita Raspberry' are purple to blue pink. The flower chamber of 'ANCASPI' has medium density markings while that of 'Carita Raspberry' has dense markings. The corolla pouch of 'ANCASPI' is yellow green whereas the pouch of 'Carita Raspberry' is red.

SHOOT: no anthocyanin colouration below inflorescence

LEAF (UPPER SIDE): medium to dark green, medium glossiness

COROLLA: absent to medium reflexing of lobes, no stripes
UPPER LIP OF COROLLA: blue pink (RHS 64D) on inner side
LOWER LIP OF COROLLA: blue pink (RHS 64D) on inner side, absent or very weak undulation of margin
COROLLA CHAMBER: broader than long, medium intensity of purple red markings on inner side, markings on inner side are of medium density
COROLLA POUCH: yellow green on inner side
NECTARY BULGE: pink to violet

Origin & Breeding History: The variety 'ANCASPI' originated from a cross conducted by the breeder Elke Steffen in Dresden, Germany during the summer of 2014. Both the female and male parents used to conduct the cross were unknown proprietary seedlings. 'ANCASPI' was selected in the summer of 2015 based on plant growth habit, flower colour and flower performance in hanging baskets. Asexual reproduction of 'ANCASPI' was first conducted by cuttings in the summer of 2015 in Dresden, Germany.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'ANCASPI' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring and summer of 2019 at Bioflora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15cm pots on April 12, 2019. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on June 24, 2019. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
