To: Importers and manufacturers of kits for the diagnosis of infectious diseases in animals and equine plasma for intravenous transfusion, products regulated as veterinary biologics in Canada

This memorandum serves to inform you that the International HS codes used for the importation of certain veterinary biologics will be changed as of Jan 1, 2017. The current code 30.02.10 will be retired and replaced by several codes. Please refer to the International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (Brussels, 14 June 1983): Amendments to the Nomenclature Appended as an Annex to the Convention – PDF (757 kb).

To ensure that kits intended for the diagnosis of infectious diseases in animals and regulated as veterinary biologics are correctly identified, please ensure that the extension 1685 is added to the code when these products are shipped to Canada.

To ensure that equine plasma intended for intravenous administration and regulated as veterinary biologics are correctly identified, please add the extension 1095.23 to the code when these products are shipped to Canada.

Please also inform your Customs brokers about this change.
