The requirements for the export of dogs and cats to Taiwan are available on the website of the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ) of Taiwan. Please see the "Guidelines of Quarantine Requirements for Importing Dogs or Cats from countries considered infected with rabies into Taiwan" and Veterinary Certificate "BAPHIQ Form 002".
An import permit is needed to export a dog or cat to Taiwan. Please see the "Online Application System for Dog/Cat Import Permit" that is available on the BAPHIQ website above. A reservation shall also be made at a post-entry quarantine in Taiwan at least 20 days prior to shipment. Each animal will be quarantined on arrival for at least 21 days.
A neutralization antibody titration test for rabies antibody performed at a laboratory designated by BAPHIQ is mandatory. The only North American laboratories available in their list (Attachment C) are the Rabies Laboratory of the Kansas State University and the Department of Defense Laboratory, Ft Sam Houston, Texas.
Once the importer has received his or her import permit, the Veterinary Health Certificate (BAPHIQ Form 002) must be completed by a veterinarian licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Canada before being presented to a CFIA official veterinarian to be endorsed. A fee is applicable for this service. Please note that there is no prescribed time between the clinical examination and travelling however it should not exceed 30 days.
