Text: The steps of a Bovine Tuberculosis investigation

On screen speaker: Former Chief Veterinary Officer for Canada 2014-2017, Dr. Harpreet Kochhar.

The current bovine TB investigation has not affected market access for Canadian cattle or beef. Canada's trading partners recognize that we have an excellent bovine TB eradication program and that an effective response does not change our bovine TB status.

Our trading partners will be looking for Canada to demonstrate that we have implemented a thorough, science based disease based response to the current situation.

On screen speaker: General Manager of the Canadian Cattlemen's Association, Rob McNabb.

To my knowledge there's been no disruption to any of our trade, in either cattle or beef to any of our trading partners. So you know, not to not to suggest that this is just another minor incident but I think that both the reputation of Canadian Food Inspection Agency as well as the Canadian cattle industry is such that, you know, the investigation will take its course but in the meantime it's business as usual.

Speaker: Former Chief Veterinary Officer for Canada 2014-2017, Dr. Harpreet Kochhar.

Our trading partners will be looking for Canada to demonstrate that we have implemented a thorough, science based disease based response to the current situation.

At the end of the investigation there will be a final report that reviews our response and the steps taken to control and eradicate the disease. This information will be shared with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH; founded as Office International des Épizooties (OIE)) and trading partners like the United States.
