Aquatic Animal Disease Risk Assessments
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency uses scientific evidence to complete risk assessments. Aquatic animal health risk assessments evaluate the risks associated with the importation of certain commodities into Canada, as well as the movement of certain commodities within Canada. The items evaluated for risk include
- live aquatic animals,
- carcasses and offal, and
- any transport and/or holding waters, including ice.
In addition, risk assessments can also be required for other activities that could result in the spread of diseases, such as discharge of processing plant effluents.
