Request a Permission

Before You Start

You must be logged into My CFIA.

You must already be enrolled as a contact and connected with the party for which you are requesting the permission. For information about enrolling as a contact and connecting to a party, see Get Started.

The Service Request tab has these primary features:

  1. Initiate a New Service Request: This is one of the most commonly used self-serve features. You will use this feature to request permissions and export certificates through My CFIA.
  2. Search Service Requests: You can search for existing service requests using specific request information
  3. Showing Service Requests: This table displays all service requests related to the current party.

Step 1: Start a New Request

Ensure the correct party is displayed in the Party Administration field. Select Submit then select the New Service Request link.

Step 2: Confirm Application Details

To proceed, select the Application Type from the drop-down menu. This is a required field.

Then select the Next Step button. The steps that follow explain the application process for requesting a permission.

For export applications, refer to the Request an Export Certificate steps.

Step 3: Determination of Application Form

To determine the correct application form for your service request, you will need to provide information about your business.

Select items from the drop-down menus and complete the required fields on the Select to Determine Application Form page.

  • Application Name (Required) (i.e. Dairy Renewal 2017)
  • Permission Type (Required)
  • Business Line (Required)
  • Commodity Group (Required)
  • Commodity Sub-Group
  • Commodity Type
  • Product
  • Activity
  • Sub-Activity
  • End Use

Select the Next Step button.

Step 4: Application Form Required

Based on the information you provided on the previous screen, the application form selected for you is shown as a link on this screen.

Select the Application Form link.

If you cannot find the downloaded form, check the Downloads folder on your computer.

Read the privacy notice statement and if you require any help, consult the information provided on the page.

Step 5: Download the Application Form

Select the Download link to download your form. Then print, complete, sign and scan the form. You must save the scanned form in PDF, PNG, or JPG format.

From the Application Form Required page, you have the following options:

  1. Select Next Step: This will open the Upload Application Form view. You will remain in session. Once you have a completed, signed and scanned a copy of the form, continue with step 6.
  2. Select Back: This will allow you to return you to the previous screen.
  3. Select Save and Return Later: When you log back into My CFIA, you can open this request from the dashboard. Use the Next Step buttons to navigate to the Upload Application Form page then proceed with step 6.
  4. Select Cancel: This deletes the application.

Step 6: Upload Supporting Documents

Upload the completed, signed application form.

For information about uploading documents, see Get Started.

When you are finished uploading your document, select Next Step.

Step 7: Select Location of Regulated Activity

Select the location of your regulated activity. Then identify the first date available for inspection by selecting the calendar icon in the First Day Available for Inspection field.

Select the Next Step button.

Note

If the establishment does not appear in the dropdown list, you may select the Save and Return Later button and go back to add the address(es) of the required establishment.

You may select the Add Custom Location to add the details of a location (i.e. if you are importing goods and making your shipment to a one-time location). For more information, see Manage My Account.

Step 8: Review and Submit

Review the information on this summary. If all the information is complete and accurate, select the Submit button. If any of the information requires corrections, select the Back button to return to the screen and correct the information.

When your application is submitted, you will see the Application Submitted page.

Note

Permission applications may take up to 10 business days to process once all requirements are met. As the Profile Manager, you are responsible for ensuring that the application is complete. Incomplete applications will be returned to you for action and may require re-submission. If the permission requires an inspection or other requirements, you will receive this information from the CFIA.

If you would like to modify, amend or renew an application, please proceed to the View Permission Application section within your dashboard.

Once your request has been reviewed by the CFIA and the payment amount has been determined, you will be notified in the manner you have chosen. To set up a payment account, log into My CFIA to download, complete and submit a credit application.

Request an Export Certificate

Before You Start

You must be logged in to My CFIA.

You must already be enrolled as a contact and connected with the party for which you are requesting the export certificate. For information about enrolling as a contact and connecting to a party, see Get Started.

  1. Initiate a New Service Request: This is one of the most commonly used self-serve features. You will use this feature to request permissions and export certificates through My CFIA.
  2. Search Service Requests: You can search for existing service requests using specific request information
  3. Showing Service Requests: This table displays all service requests related to the current Party.

Step 1: Start a New Request

Ensure the correct party is displayed in the party administration field. Select Submit then select the New Service Request link.

Step 2: Confirm Application Details

You need to provide some information to determine the correct export certificate.

Verify that the party Information is correct. If you need to make changes, select the Update Party Information button to open the Manage Party page where you may make the required changes.

If the party information is correct, select the Application Type from the drop-down menu. This is a required field.

Then select the Next Step button. The steps that follow will relate to an export certificate application.

Step 3: Export Application Attestation

Read the attestation and select I accept (Required) checkbox to attest that all information contained in or referenced by the submission is complete and accurate and is not false or misleading.

Select the Accept button.

Step 4: Select Date of Export

Enter a unique name for your application in the Application Name field. This will help you identify the export request if you are looking for it at a later date.

Use the calendar icon in the Date of Export field to choose the date of export. If you do not have an exact date of export, provide an approximate date. The date of export can be updated at a later time by contacting the CFIA at 1-800-442-CFIA (2342).

Select the Next Step button.

To return to the previous screen, select the Back button. This will ensure information on the current screen is saved.

Select the Cancel button to delete the application.

Select the Save and Return Later button to save the application and complete it at a later time.

Step 5: Identify the Operating Name

From the drop down menu, select your Operating Name. If you need to make changes related to the operating name, select the Manage Operating Names button.

When the operating name information is correct, identify the consigner's address from the following choices:

  • Establishment
  • Main Office Address
  • Billing Address

If the goods to be exported are in a location that is not owned by the party, the consignor's address is not listed on the party profile. In this case, select the Add Custom Location button to add the address.

Select Custom Location to enter a unique location for this shipment and then on the Enter Consignor Custom Location page, provide the following information:

  • Country (Required)
  • Address Line 1 (Required)
  • Address Line 2
  • Address Line 3
  • City (Required)
  • State/Province/Region (Required)
  • ZIP/Postal Code (Required)
  • GPS Latitude
  • GPS Longitude
  • Location Description

Enter information into the fields to identify the location of the regulated activity then select the Next Step button. The information will be used for this application but will not be saved to your profile.

Step 6: Consignee Information

The Consignee Information is mandatory information required for the export certificate. Complete the following fields:

  • Name (Required)
  • Country (Required)
  • Address Line 1 (Required)
  • Address Line 2
  • Address Line 3
  • City (Required)
  • State/Province/Region (Required)
  • ZIP/Postal Code (Required)

Step 7: Gathering Information for Your Export Certificate Application

To proceed with your export certificate application, you will be asked a series of questions to verify the eligibility of your shipment for export.

If you are unable to complete your application during your session, select the Save and Return button to complete the application at a later time.

Once you have answered all the questions, the system will let you know if you need to submit any additional documentation.

To begin, select Next Step. The questions you receive will be customized based on your previous answer so the screens that follow are representative of what you might see.

Once all questions have been answered, Your Results will display the certificate type, annexes, attestations, supporting documents and actions required based on the answers your provided.

Select the Confirm button to continue your service request. If you need to make changes to the answers you provided, select the Back button to make the corrections.

Step 8: Select Establishments

If prompted, select the location of the exported product from the Select Establishment(s) screen.

Select the name of the establishment listed under Establishments, and then select the right arrow to add the establishment to the Selected Establishments list.

If the location is not displayed, select the +Add a Location button and enter the following information on the Select Establishment(s) screen.

  • Country (Required)
  • Address Line 1 (Required)
  • Address Line 2
  • City (Required)
  • State/Province/Region (Required)
  • ZIP/Postal Code (Required)
  • GPS Latitude
  • GPS Longitude
  • Additional Details

Step 9: Enter Product Information

If prompted, enter the export certificate product information. This information will be used to complete your export certificate.

If the product is not displayed, select the +Add Product Information button and enter the following information on the Add Product Information screen. You can add multiple products as needed.

  • Product Name (Required)
  • Description (Required)
  • Package Type (Required)
  • Net Weight (Required)
  • Weight Unit (kg/lb) (Required)

Select the Save button.

Step 10: Upload Supporting Documents

If supporting documents are required to process your export certificate, the Upload Supporting Documents screen will appear indicating which documents are needed. If you do not require any supporting documents, select the Next Step button to continue.

You must upload all the required documents to continue with the process. If a document was uploaded, Upload Successful will appear in the Upload Status column after the document name.

If you accidentally uploaded the wrong document, select the Delete button and repeat the Upload Supporting Documents step to upload the correct document. You may select the Save & Return Later button to upload a document at another time.

When you are finished, select the Next Step button.

Step 11: Review and Submit your Application

Carefully review the information on this summary. To correct any information, select the Back button to return to the screen. If all the information is complete and accurate, select the Submit button.

When your application is submitted, you will see the Application Submitted page.

Modifying a Draft Export Certificate Application

Before selecting the Submit button on an export certificate application, you can return to the application to make modifications at any time.

On your dashboard, locate and select the draft application you wish to modify. Make the required changes. Select the Submit button on the final screen to submit the application.
